Hoping only to make it through 2 rounds at the Roxy Pro Gold Coast, I ended up in the Quarter Finals, which will probably be held over the weekend! This is my first year on tour and I love it. So many different faces, new experiences to look forward to.
This is my crew> Johanne Defay (most hilarious girl I have ever met), Mathias Maallem (he eats an enormous amount of avo's) and me a the ASP Surfing Awards held at the end of last month. The second time I have ever worn high heals. With great effort I made my way down the blue carpet straight to the liitle burgers and snacks that they were handing out. You can take a girl out of Africa, but you can't take Africa out of this girl.
On day three of the WQS in Merewether, Newcastle, there were rumors of a cyclone coming our way. Massive swell, strong winds and pouring rain forced contest directors to relocate the contest to the harbour wall. Before coming to Australia I had never seen a cyclone, and here were two in about two weeks! So we changed from surfing tiny waves with sunny weather, to barreling waves off a harbour wall (apparently breaking on a shipwreck?), the rain stinging your face as it came down horizontally with the wind. I felt like a real extreme sportswoman while riding on a jetski, trying to block the rain from my eyes, peaking at the line-up and seeing big barrels.
